Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Systems
CVL provided freight and warehousing services to the lead design-build contractor, Rosendin Renewable Energy Group (Rosendin), in connection with the development and construction of a 500MWac/631MWdc solar installation spread across 4,000 acres in Wharton County, Texas. CVL worked hand-in-hand with Rosendin’s project managers and purchasing agents to assist with transport of the 1.4 million solar modules needed for this project now powering 100,000 homes annually. CVL has also provided similar services for Rosendin’s other notable renewable energy projects located throughout the US.
Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
BESS components often complement solar grid facilities to improve the function and utility of the grid during peak demand hours. CVL has stored and transported battery systems, including Tesla Megapacks, BYD and Powin Stack 230E, for various BESS projects located in the west coast. In connection with the development of a 200MW/400MWh BESS project in San Diego, California, CVL provided emergency warehousing to the design-build contractor on a month-to-month basis for storage of more than 50 medium-voltage transformers (MVTs) due to an unexpected project delay and ultimate delivery requiring specialty RGN trailers for the oversized MVTs.
CVL is aware and familiar with state-of-charge (SOC), thermal runaway, degradation, and deflagration concerns when transporting or storing BESS components.
Raw Material & Vendor IntegratioN
Whether a Solar PV or BESS project calls for piers, transformers, hv breakers, cable reels, static masts, pile mounts, cable trays or any other material and product, CVL can assist all vendors, project managers and purchasing agents with transport, kitting and storage of all material and specialty equipment needed on the project site.
Health & Safety
Solar PV and BESS project sites are typically situated in rural and undeveloped areas, which present inherent health and safety concerns when transporting heavy machinery, bulk material and oversized products. To lessen these risks CVL will (i) conduct an on-site visit, (ii) get educated on the health and safety protocols of the lead contractor and local ordinances, and (iii) staff a dedicated member of the CVL Team on-site to coordinate and ensure compliance by carrier drivers concerning personal protective equipment (PPE), observing rules of the road, streamline transport communications between contractor-supplier, and general health and safety.
Transport Costs
A project delay resulting in mechanical or substantial completion at the site-development, install, or system performance stage due to unforeseen circumstances may occur. CVL’s familiarity in renewable energy transport can help you mitigate liquidated damages, provide transport rates for a project change order, and help you reduce transport costs absorbed by you rather than the client/developer.
